তারিখটা ছিলো ২৯.১২.২০১৮. সকাল ৯টার সময় বেড়িয়ে পড়লাম কাছে পিঠে বর্ধমানের কালনা শহরকে দেখবো বলে । এই কালনা শহরকে অনেকে আবার অম্বিকা কালনাও বলে থাকেন । দূর্গার আর এক নাম হলো মাতা অম্বিকা, এই নামানুসারে হয়তো এই জায়গার নাম হয়তো হয়েছে অম্বিকা কালনা । এই অম্বিকা কালনাতে আমাদের ব্যান্ডেল থেকে পৌঁছাতে প্রায় বেলা ১২টার কাছাকাছি হয়ে গেছিলো । বেলা ১২ টার সময় সব ঠাকুর মন্দিরই বন্ধ হয়ে যায় । সব কিছু ভালো করে দেখা হলোনা বলে অনেক সময় ধরে সেখানে অপেক্ষা করতে হলো । তবে সকাল ১০ টার মধ্যে পৌঁছাতে পারলে এইসব জায়গা ভালো করে দেখা যায় নাহলে বিকেল ৪ টা পর্যন্ত অপেক্ষা করতে হবে । আমরাও তাই এখানে বেলা ৪টা পর্য্যন্ত অপেক্ষা করে রইলাম । তারই মধ্যে আবার আশেপাশের বিভিন্ন দর্শনীয় স্থানগুলি ঘুরে নিলাম ।
কালনা শহরটি হলো শৈব ও বৈষ্ণব ধর্মের এক অপরূপ মেল বন্ধন । এই শহর হলো দুই ধর্মরেই তীর্থক্ষেত্র । এই কালনা শহর জুড়ে অসংখ্য মন্দির এখানে ওখানে ছড়িয়ে আছে । বহু দূর দূরান্ত থেকে মানুষজন আসেন এই অপরূপ অম্বিকা কালনা শহরকে দর্শন করার জন্য । আমরা এখানে পৌঁছানোর পর একটা টোটো ঠিক করে নিয়েছিলাম, সেই আমাদের পথ দেখিয়ে বিভিন্ন মন্দিরে ঘুরিয়ে দিয়েছিলেন । প্রথমে আমরা ১০৮ শিব মন্দিরে প্রবেশ করেছিলাম কিন্তু বেলা ১২টা বেজে যাওয়ার জন্য ভালো করে সেটা দেখা হয়নি, তাই ঠিক করলাম এখানে অন্য জায়গা গুলো ঘুরে এসে আবার এই শিব মন্দিরে প্রবেশ করবো । এই ১০৮ শিব মন্দির মহারাজ তেজচাঁদ বাহাদুর ১৮০৯ সালে রাজবাড়ির ঠিক বিপরীত দিকে নির্মান করিয়ে ছিলেন । এই মন্দরিরকে অনেকে আবার নব কৈলাশ মন্দিরও বলে থাকেন । সবাই বলে ১০৮ শিব মন্দির, হিসাব মতো দেখলে এখানে বৃত্তাকারে সজ্জিত ১০৯ টি শিব মন্দির আছে । এখানে বর্হিবৃত্তে ৭৪ টি, অন্তর্বৃত্তে ৩৪ টি এবং এই বৃত্তের বাইরে আরো একটি মন্দির আছে । রাজা তিলক চাঁদের মাতা লক্ষীকুমারী ১৭৫২ সালে এই সুন্দর মন্দিরটি নির্মান করেছিলেন ।
কথিত আছে এই কালনা শহরে মহাপ্রভু শ্রীচৈতন্যদেবের পদধূলি এই পূর্নভূমিতে পড়েছিলো । এখানেই মহাপ্রভুর নির্দেশে মহাপ্রভু তলাতে গৌরাঙ্গের মন্দির নির্মান হয়েছিলো । এখানে বর্ধমান মহারাজার কালনার প্রাসাদটি অসাধারন । এখানেই দেখা যাবে লালজী মন্দির, প্রতাপেশ্বর দেউল, কৃষ্ণচন্দ্রজী মন্দির , রাসমঞ্চ , রূপেশ্বর মন্দির , গিরিগবোর্ধন মন্দির ইত্যাদির । প্রত্যেকটির কারুকার্য অসাধারন । অনন্ত বাসুদেব মন্দিরের টেরাকোটার কাজ আজও সকল মানুষকে মুগ্ধ করে । প্রতিটি মানুষকে এই সমস্ত স্থাপত্যের কারুকার্য দেখে অবাক হতে হয় । এছাড়া এখানে দেখার স্থানগুলি হলো ভবা পাগলার মন্দির , শ্রীগৌরাঙ্গ মন্দির , সিদ্ধেশ্বরী কালী বাড়ি । এছাড়া রাধাকৃষ্ণের মন্দির রয়েছে কালনার অন্তর্গত বাগনা পাড়া ও গোপালদাসপুরে গ্রামে । গোপালদাসপুরে এই রাধাকৃষ্ণের মন্দিরের মূর্তিটি কাঠের তৈরি । এছাড়া কালনার মন্তেশ্বরে ৭০০ বছরের পুরানো দেবী তারক্ষ্যর মন্দির আছে । এখানে এই দেবীর মূর্তিটি কমলেকামিনী ধাঁচের । এখানে বিজয় বৈদ্যনাথ মন্দির ও গোপালজীর মন্দিরও দর্শন করে নেওয়া যেতে পারে । এছাড়া আমলীতলাতে আছে মহাপ্রভুর বিশ্রামস্থল । এখানে একটা সারাদিন এই সমস্ত মন্দির দেখতে দেখতে কখন যে সময় চলে যাবে তা বুঝতেই পারা যাবেনা ।
কিভাবে যাবেন : হাওড়া থেকে কাটোয়া লোকাল ধরে অম্বিকা কালনা স্টেশনে নেমে অটো বা টোটো ভাড়া করে নিয়ে অতি সহজেই এই জায়গাগুলির দর্শন করে নেওয়া যেতে পারে । যারা বর্ধমান শহর থেকে আসবেন তারা যদি বাসে যাতায়াত করেন সেটাই ভালো হয় । বর্ধমান শহর থেকে কালনাগামী প্রচুর বাস আছে । সবচেয়ে ভালো হয় যদি একটা প্রাইভেট গাড়ি ভাড়া করে নেওয়া যায় , তবে নিজের খুশীমতো এই জায়গাগুলিতে ঘোরা যায় ।
কোথায় থাকবেন : এখানে অনেক বেসরকারী হোটেল আছে । সুবিধামতো যেকোনো একটা ঠিক করে নেওয়া যেতে পারে । এছাড়া আছে জেলা পরিষদের বাংলো । এখানে এসি ও নন এসি দুটোরই ব্যবস্থা আছে । তবে আগে থেকে বুকিং করে আসলে ভালো হয় ।

Known as the ‘City of Temples’, Ambika Kalna in West Bengal is famous for its terracotta temples built in the 18th century. The shrine complex matches the splendor and artistic excellence of the terracotta temples at Bishnupur.

Located on the banks of Bhagirathi river in Bardhaman district, the town also known as Kalna is named after Goddess Kali. The first reference to Ambika Kalna is found in a 6th century text when it was an important center for maritime trade. However, the town truly attained glory under the Maharajas of Bardhaman in the 18th century. During this period, the Bardhaman rulers built several temples with detailed terracotta ornamentation.

The most eye-catching landmark in Kalna is the 108 Shiva temple complex. Maharaja Tejachandra oversaw the construction of the temples to celebrate the transfer of ownership of the Bishnupur royal estate. The temples showcase fabulous terracotta sculptures. Episodes from the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, erotica and hunting scenes are depicted on the walls.

Kalna is an important production center of textiles and saris. It also has several rice mills and is a major center for rice trade.

108 SHIVA TEMPLES

PLACE DETAILS:
Also known as the Navakailasha temple, the complex was built in 1809. It is the second Shiv Temple complex in India, the first being located in Bardhaman. There are 108 number of Shiva lingas in the temple; the outer circle comprises of 75 temples, while the inner circle comprises of 35 temples.
Half of the total Shiva lingas are white and the rest are black in colour in the outer circle. Shiva lingas in the inner circle are white. The Shiv Lingas in the outer circle represent the world we live in, where white symbolizes good deeds and black symbolizes sins. It is only through prayers to Lord Shiva that one gets to see the world filled with pure thoughts and deeds. Such a world is symbolised by the inner circle of temples.

PRATAPESHWAR TEMPLE

PLACE DETAILS:
Named after King Pratap Chand and built in 1849 in the‘rekh-deul’ style of temple architecture, the temple has rich terracotta ornamentation. It contains terracotta plaques depicting themes of Hindu epic, mythical life of Sree Chaitanya, images of Durga and Ravana and various aspects of day to day life.

LALJI TEMPLE

PLACE DETAILS:
Built in 1739 by Braja Kishori Devi, the wife of Maharaja Jagat Ram. A bright yellow Garuda with chilly green wings faces the main deities, Radha and Krishna. Miniature panels which surround the base of the temple, depict scenes from the Puranas. The temple is dedicated to Shri Radhika and Shri Krishna and is located in West Bengal. In front of the temple is a Natmandir or a dancing hall.
