তামিল ভাষায় "মুন" কথাটির অর্থ  "তিন" এবং "আর" হলো "নদী" , তাই স্বাভাবিকভাবেই  বোঝা যাচ্ছে মুন্নার শব্দের আক্ষরিক অর্থই হলো " তিন নদীর দেশ"....... আর তিনটে নদীর নাম........ মুদ্রাপুজাহ,নালাতান্নি ও কুন্ডলা। ১৮১৬- ১৮১৭ সালে Benjamin Dwayne Ward  এই তিন নদীর সঙ্গমস্থলে একটি ক্যাম্প স্থাপন করেন।  প্রথমে ব্রিটিশ রাজ তাদের  ক্যাম্প Sanatorium হিসেবে স্থাপন করলেও,চা এবং কফি চাষের মাধ্যমে মুনাফার চেষ্টা চলে । কিন্তু লাভ তো দূরের কথা ,কোনোমতেই প্লান্টগুলোকে চালিয়ে নিয়ে যাওয়াই যাচ্ছিল না। এরপরে Sir Charles Trevelyan ,তৎকালীন  মাদ্রাজের গভর্নর ,Col Douglas Hamilton কে Sanatorium তৈরির ব্যাপারেই মনোযোগী হতে বলেন। ইতোমধ্যে তিন নদী দিয়ে বহু জল গড়িয়ে গেল ... ... আর ১৯০০ তে মনোরেল ও রোপওয়ে হল .... অনেক চা বাগান, মসলা বাগিচা ও রবার গাছের চাষ শুরু হলো ......... আজ যে সবের একচ্ছত্র অধিপতি টাটা ইন্ডিয়া লিমিটেড। আজ মুন্নার পরিপূর্ণ যুবতী ....... রূপসী,রূপকথার দেশ।
শহর থেকে ১৩ কিমি দূরে এই তিন নদীর সঙ্গমে বাঁধ দিয়ে Pallivasal Hydro Electric Project ও ১২ কিমি দূরে Mattupatty লেক হয়েছে। রংবেরঙের প্রজাপতি ,সবুজ পাহাড় ও শ্যামলা লেকের জলে ঢেউ খেলে। বোটিং এর ব্যবস্থাও আছে।
১৯৭৮ সালে জন্ম নেওয়া Eravikulam বা ১৭ কিমি দূরে রাজামালাই জাতীয় উদ্যান ( ১৯৫০ মিটার ) ।
.......আর এখানেই পাওয়া যায় "ভাড়াই  আড্ডু"  বা Nilgiri Thar বা নীল ভেড়া ,মতান্তরে নীল ছাগল। এটি বিশ্বের সর্বাধিক বিরল প্রজাতির। ১০০ বর্গ কিমি Eravikulam National Park এ এদের বাস।

ইকো পয়েন্ট , হানি বি ট্রি আর মরশুমী হাজার ফুলের জন্য আছে ব্লসম পার্ক।
Chinakanal ,Pallivasal ছাড়াও অসংখ্য ঝর্না আছে মুন্নারে।
আপনি যদি পোথামেডু ভিউ পয়েন্ট সূর্যাস্ত না দেখেন তো ,আপনার দারুন একটা দৃশ্য দেখা হলোনা !!!
আর যে বন্ধুরা ট্রেক ভালোবাসেন তাদের জন্য তো আনাই মুডি ( ২৬৯৫ মি আছেই।"আনাই মুডি" কথার অর্থ হলো "হাতির মাথা"।

"নীলা কুরুঞ্জি " নামের কোন ফুল দেখেছেন আপনারা ?
এই ফুল কতবছর ছাড়া ফোটে জানেন ?
শেষ কত সালে ফুটেছিল জানেন ?
এই ফুল কোথায় পাওয়া যায় জানেন ?
উত্তর খুঁজতে চলুন আমার সাথে Top station এ। ভাবছেন সেটা আবার কোথায় ? তাই তো !
এক সময় চা শিল্পের প্রয়োজনে রোপওয়ে এবং মনোরেল চালু হয় মূন্নারে কিন্তু এক সময়ের বীভৎস প্লাবন(১৯২৪)ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত করে রেলওয়ে ,রোপওয়ে কে...... আর তারপরেই সুন্দর সুন্দর রাস্তা বানানোর উদ্যোগ নেওয়া হয় । কিন্তু দক্ষিণ ভারতের সর্বোচচ স্টেশন ( ২২০০ মি ও চা বাগান Top S নামেই রয়ে যায়। আর এখানেই  তো প্রতি বারো বছর ছাড়া ছাড়া "নীলা কুরুঁজি" ফুল ফোটে......শেষ ফুটেছিল ২০১৮ সালে। এরপর ২০৩০ এ ফুটবে ..... দেখতে যেতেই হবে কিন্তু !!!
লেক ,ঝর্না, ওয়াটারফলস ও মশলা বাগিচার জন্য মুন্নার তথা কেরালা বিশ্ব বিখ্যাত হয়ে গেছে। এখানকার ধারা ম্যাসেজ আপনার হাজারো ব্যাধির উপশম ঘটাবে। ১৮০০ মি উঁচু সীতা দেবী লেকে পিকনিক আর Chippara ও Valara ওয়াটারফলস আপনার আনন্দের   কোনও ঘাটতি রাখবে না এটা জোর দিয়েই বলা যায়।

মধুচন্দ্রিমা যাপনের সেরা ঠিকানার একটি এই মুন্নার। অপরূপ প্রাকৃতিক সৌন্দর্যের জন্য " দক্ষিণ ভারতের কাশ্মীর " নামে খ্যাত এই মুন্নার আপনারা সারা বছরের যে কোনও সময়েই যেতে পারেন। তবে নভেম্বর থেকে ফেব্রুয়ারি আমার মনে হয় বেস্ট। তাপমাত্রা  মোটামুটি ১০- ২৮ ° c  November - February মাসে।
কোথায় থাকবেন :

এই মুহূর্তে আমার কাছে কোনও হোটেলের নাম, ফোন নং নেই ,তাই দিতে পারছি না। তবে সেরকম প্রয়োজন হলে গুগোল খুড়োর হেল্প নেবেন।  আর পেরিয়ার যাবার রাস্তায়,মুন্নার বাজার থেকে একটু এগিয়ে গেলেই অনেক সস্তায় হোটেল পাবেন।
অন্তত দুটো বা তিনটে রাত মুন্নারে না থাকলে আমার মনে হয়  মন  শান্তি পাবে না।
মুন্নার থেকেই সব ট্যুর কমপ্লিট করা যাবে।

কীভাবে ঘুরবেন মুন্নার:

চারটে প্রধান রুটে আমরা  মুন্নার ঘুরে যেতে পারি .........
১) Mattupatty ডিরেকশন:
এখানে আমরা Subramanya Temple,Rose garden,Carmelagiri Elephant Park ,Mattupetty Dam,Cowboy Park ও Kundala Dam দেখবো।
২) Thekkaddy ডিরেকশন:
এইপথে আমরা দেখব.....
Signal Point /View Point, Idlyhill view point,organic gardens,Lockhart Tea Museum ও Periyar canal Water falls
এটাই বেশিরভাগ টুরিস্ট এনজয় করে।
৩) Adimaly ডিরেকশন::
এই রুটে আমরা দেখে নিতে পারি ....
Pothamedu ভিউ পয়েন্ট,spices plantation ও Chengulam Dam
এবার শেষ যে রুটে আমরা যেতে পারি ........
4) Eravikulam National Park,Anaimudi peak( for trekking specially),Marayur Sandal Forest  ও Muniyar.....

সকাল ৭ টা থেকে রাত্রি ৯ টা পর্যন্ত সবদিন খোলা থাকে।বহু বিরল ও বিপদাপন্ন বন্যদের দেখা মেলে। বোটিং ,ট্রেকিং এবং Bamboo Rafting করে দেখা যায়। সকাল সন্ধ্যা যখন বুনোরা জল খেতে আসে,তখনই দেখা মেলে।এখানে Asian Elephant,Bengal Tigers,Sambar Deer,Indian Bison,Leopards,Migratory birds ও বিভিন্ন সরীসৃপের দেখা মেলে ।এন্ট্রি ফি ইন্ডিয়ানদের জনপ্রতি ২৫ টাকা ফরেনার দের জনপ্রতি ৩০০ টাকা।



About Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary

Set high in the ranges of the Western Ghats, in God’s Own Country, Kerala, is the Periyar National Park and Tiger Reserve. Periyar wildlife sanctuary has a picturesque lake at the heart of the sanctuary. Formed with the building of a dam in 1895, this reservoir meanders around the contours of the wooded hills, providing a permanent source of water for the local wildlife. Though its a Tiger Reserve, tourists come here to view the Indian elephants in the act of ablution and playfulness by the Periyar lake.

Major Wildlife Attractions in Periyar National Park

Apart from Elephants, the other animals to be seen in the Periyar sanctuary are Gaur, Wild Pigs, Sambar, Barking Deer, Mouse Deer, Dole or Indian Wild Dog and very rarely, a Tiger. There are, now, an estimated 40 tigers here. Four species of primates are found at Periyar - the rare lion-tailed macaque, the Nilgiri Langur, Common Langur And Bonnet Macaque. Periyar also happens to be the habitat of the elusive Nilgiri Tahr, which is rarely to be seen.

The birdlife comprises of Darters, Cormorants, Kingfishers, the great Malabar Hornbill and racket-tailed Drongoes. The reptilian population boasts Of Monitor Lizards that can be spotted basking in the sun, on the rocks along the lakeshore. Visitors who trek into the Periyar national park often see a Python and sometimes even a King Cobra.
In the lap of the mountains, the Periyar wildlife sanctuary's environ is like a canvas of many shades. The fresh air of the moist deciduous forest gives one a chance to experience the peace and serenity and long to return for more.

Other Attractions in Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary

Kumily :
Situated just 4-kms from Periyar, Kumily is a growing town where tourism is fastly catching up just like the spice trade, the major occupation of this small town. The town is also well equipped with the excellent hotels and resorts for accommodation.
Cradomom Hills :
Periyar and Kumily are the most convenient points from which visitors can easily explore Kerala's beautiful Cardamom hills. Guide will approach you at offers of trips via jeep or taxi to the hills and if you can get a group together, these trips work out as a good travel value.
Boat Cruises :
Boat cruises make the best option to check out the wilds of Periyar Sanctuary.Today the Periyar lake presents an excellent boating spot for tourists. Although it is unusual to see many animals from the boats, still you spot a family of Elephants, Wild Boar, and Sambar Deer by the water's edge. The upper deck is best for wildlife viewing when taking a boat cruise, but better turn up half an hour early to get the best seat. To maximise you chances, take the 7.00 am boat. You can also consider renting your own boat.

Best Time to Visit Periyar

The best season to visit Periyar wildlife sanctuary is from the months of October and June.

How to Get there

Air : Kochi (Cochin) at 200-kms or Madurai in Tamil Nadu at140-kms are the nearest airports from Periyar.
Rail : Kottayam at 114-kms is the nearest railhead from Periyar.
Road : Kumily, the nearest town from Periyar is well served by both state and private buses from Kottayam, Ernakulam and Madurai in Tamil Nadu.

General Info / Tips

Note : After heavy rains, chances of good wildlife sightings are very slim as the animals only come to the lake, when water sources inside the forest have dried up.

থেককাডি থেকে ৫ কিমি দূরে,সবুজ পাহাড় আর দারুন সুন্দর সুন্দর মসলা বাগান পূর্ণ,ফ্যামিলি পিকনিকের জন্য আদর্শ স্থান মুরুক্কাডি।বাতাসে কফি,এলাচি ও দারুচিনির গন্ধ..... সবদিন,সারাদিন খোলা,এন্ট্রি ফি নেই।

Pandikuzhi Kerala

ছবির মতো পাহাড়ি শহর।chellarkovil ও তামিলনাড়ু বোর্ডের এর মাঝখানে সবুজ পাহাড় ঘেরা ,উদ্দাম জলপ্রপাতের জন্য বিখ্যাত । সকাল ৫:৩০ থেকে রাত্রি ৮:৩০ মনের আনন্দে ঘুরুন।


Pandikuzhi Kerala
A popular picnic spot, Pandikuzhi is located 5 kms away from Thekkady between Chellarkovil and the Tamil Nadu border. Pandikuzhi is a picturesque hill station all endowed with lush greenery, natural waterfall and myriad of flora and fauna. This place offers great opportunity for trekking and getting clicked at the most delightful site featuring green sheet of foliage.
        If you love to soak yourself in nature, then you are never going to forget your visit to Pandikuzhi waterfalls. These are cascading waterfalls, falling from a height of almost 1200 ft. The roaring sound and sprinkling water splashes rejuvenate you and is no less than a brain spa. One can also explore the rich flora and fauna near the waterfall. The waterfalls are positioned between Chellarkovil and Tamil Nadu border. One can choose to take a private taxi till Pandikuzhi; a shared auto till Chellarkovil or if you are an adventure lover, then I strongly recommend you to trek to the waterfalls. Please note that there is no entry fee to this heavenly heaven place. You can visit it at any time of the year, but the best time is during the month of September to March. It is a real treat to see these waterfalls during monsoon, but at the same time, it is risky as well.
           Pandikuzhi is located just 5 km away from Kumily. People nearby localities and those who are easily connected to this place, prefer it as a weekend destination others can choose this place while their trip to Thekkady. People, who are always busy with their daily chores, find this place as a getaway to relax and rejuvenate them.

periyar lake


পেরীয়ার জাতীয় উদ্যানের কেন্দ্রে মানুষের তৈরি কৃত্রিম লেক। চারিদিকে সবুজ পাহাড়।এর মাঝে মাঝে গাছের গুঁড়ি প্রমাণ দেয় যে এটা তৈরি করতে গিয়ে জঙ্গলের অনেকটাই জলের তলায় গেছে।গ্রীষ্মে জঙ্গলের মধ্যে একমাত্র এই জলের উৎসটিতে পালে পালে হাতি,বাঘ,বুনো মহিষ,সম্বর হরিণ জল খেতে আসে।হাজারো পরিযায়ী পাখির কলতানে চতুর্দিক মুখরিত হয়।
বোটিং সকাল ৭:৩০,৯:৩০,১১:১৫,১:৪৫ ও সবশেষ ৩:৩০.....এন্ট্রি ফি বড়দের ২২৫ টাকা ও ছোটদের ৭৫ টাকা। Bamboo Rafting করে বিভিন্ন জন্তু ও কাছের সুন্দর আদিবাসী গ্রামটি দেখে নেওয়া যেতে পারে।

KUMILY থেকে ১১ কিমি।উঁচু পাহাড় আর সবুজ উপত্যকায় সুন্দর ,শান্ত নিরিবিলি একটি গ্রাম। এর জলপ্রপাতের জলে সাতরঙা রামধনু একে মোহময়ী করে তোলে।শহুরে জীবনের একঘেয়েমি কাটাতে আসতেই হবে এখানে।ফলের,বিশেষ করে কালো আঙ্গুরের বাগিচা,সবুজ ধানের ক্ষেত আর স্থানীয় মানুষদের অতিথিপরায়ণ ব্যবহার আপনাকে মুগ্ধ করবেই। ঘন বাঁশ বন, আর সবুজ গ্রামের রাস্তায় আপনি স্বচ্ছন্দে ঘুরে বেড়ান,ট্রেক করুন অথবা বাগিচা দেখুন।এখানে একটা ওয়াচ টাওয়ার থেকে দারুন ভাবে প্রকৃতিকে উপভোগ করুন।এটা কে সবাই বলে .." God's Own Balcony"...

Chellarkovil is famous for its greenish mountains, cascading waterfalls and picturesque beauty. The destination is placed around 1200 m above the sea level. When you reach Chellarkovil, you will feel like this is the place that you were longing to visit for a long time. Chellarkovil is located 15 km north to Thekkady and Kumily.

জানা যায় পেরিয়ারের ঘন জঙ্গলের মধ্যে এই মন্দিরটি নাকি হাজার বছরের পুরনো।এই মন্দির নিয়ে একটা সুন্দর গল্প আছে।Kannaki নামে এক তামিল মেয়ে নাকি গোটা মাদুরাই শহর টাকে জ্বালিয়ে দিয়েছিল,তার নিরপরাধ স্বামী হত্যার প্রতিশোধ নিতে। স্বামীর নাম ছিল Kovilan,তাকে মিথ্যে চুরির অপরাধে দোষী সাব্যস্ত করা হয়েছিল।জনশ্রুতি যে এখানকার shuruli পাহাড় থেকেই তারা স্বর্গযাত্রা করেন। বিশাল বিশাল গ্রানাইট পাথরের তৈরি এই মন্দিরটি chera রাজা দের তৈরি।বছরে একবার chitrapournami উৎসবের সময়,এপ্রিল মে মাসে এটি টুরিস্টদের জন্য উন্মুক্ত।সেই সময় কেরালা ও তামিলনাড়ু উভয় রাজ্যের পুরোহিতরা বিধি মেনে নৈতিক শক্তির কামনায় প্রার্থনা করেন।আগে থেকে অনুমতি নিতে হয় টুরিস্টদের Periyar wildlife warden এর কাছ থেকে।
এটির গুরুত্ব যতটা না ধর্মীয় স্থান হিসেবে,তার থেকে অনেক বেশি গা ছমছমে পেরীযার জঙ্গল পেরিয়ে যেতে হয় বলে।

Mangala Devi Kannagi temple is a historic temple located in the Idukki District of Kerala bordering Tamil Nadu, about 7 km from Pazhiyankudi in Theni district and 15 km from Thekkady in Idukki district. Cheran Chenguttuvan, the king of ancient Tamilakam, had erected the temple for Kannagi around 2000 years back at Vannathipara and called it 'Kannagi Kottam' or 'Mangaladevi Kannagi temple' and performed regular pujas. It sits at an altitude of about 1,337 m (4,386 ft) above the mean sea level. It is surrounded by lush greenery and is closed throughout the year except during the Chitra Pournami festival. At other times tourists can still view it by getting a special letter from the forest ranger. The view from the temple premises is spectacular and one can see part of eastern ghats and some villages from adjacent state of Tamil Nadu.

Ramakkalmedu is a hill station and a hamletin Idukki district in the Indian state of Kerala. The place is noted for its panoramic beauty and numerous windmills. Wide area, here we spend our time happily.



ছবিতে যে দুটি স্ট্যাচু দেখতে পাচ্ছেন ....তার একজন Kuruvan আর একজন Kurathi..... আর নিশ্চয়ই আন্দাজ করছেন এরা নিশ্চিতভাবেই কোন ভালো কাজ করে ছিল .... হ্যাঁ,এরা বিখ্যাত Iddukki বাঁধ নির্মাণের সঠিক স্থান নিরূপণে সাহায্য করেছিল।
অতীব সুন্দর প্রাকৃতিক দৃশ্য,রোমান্টিক সূর্যাস্ত দেখতে সবাই এখানে আসে।শোনা যায় সীতা কে রাবণ অপহরণ করার পর রাম নাকি এই পাহাড়ে এসেছিলেন।
আর একটা বিশেষ কারণের জন্য এই ছোট্ট পাহাড়ী শহর টি বিখ্যাত... এটি হলো এশিয়ার WINDIEST PLACE..... সব সময় ঘণ্টায় ৩৫ কিমি বেগে বাতাস বইছে........ আর ঠিক সে কারণেই এখানে অনেক ENERGY FARM তৈরি হয়েছে ।

Ramakkalmedu, situated 3500 ft above the sea level, presents a bird’s eye view of the countryside of the neighboring Tamil Nadu State. The striking feature of the Ramakkalmedu is the historical monument of Kuravan and Kurathi, a huge statue that illustrates the Sangam period of Kerala.

Parunthumpara

Idukki জেলার একটি ছোট গ্রাম।এখানের EAGLES ROCK থেকে বাইনোকুলার দিয়ে বহুদূরের ৩৬০ ডিগ্রী ভিউ পাওয়া যায়।সুন্দর সবুজ উপত্যকা। TREKKER দের দারুন পছন্দের জায়গা। NAZRANI,BRAMARAM ইত্যাদি বহু তামিল ছবির শুটিং হয়েছে ,হচ্ছে এখানে। এখান থেকে SABARIMALA FOREST সুন্দর ভাবে দেখা যায়।

Parunthumpara is a village in the Indian state of Kerala's Idukki District. It is a small scenic location near Wagamon en route to Peerumedu. Parunthumpara is located 6 km from Peermade and 25 km from Thekkady. The Malayalam word parunth means eagle and para means rock. It is called Parunthumpara or "eagle rock" because of a large area around like an eagle.

From here, the Makarajyothi of Sabarimala is visible. The main attractions of Parunthumpara are Suicide Point and Tagor Head (a rock that appears to have the shape of Tagor, an Indian poet's, head).

The District Tourism Promotion Council plans to develop Parunthumpara as a hill station and as a stopover place for tourists who travel from Kumarakom to Thekkady. There are two main roads through which the domestic and international tourists reach the district — from Nedumbassery to Munnar and from Kumarakom to Thekkady. A project has been submitted to the government[when?] for constructing a protective wall and for allotting a parking area so as to prevent the entry of vehicles on the grasslands.


Sabarimala pilgrims visit the area to witness makarajyothi, making it a busy place during the pilgrimage season.

Peermedu



পীরমেডু Idukki জেলার একটি ছোট গ্রাম।এখানের EAGLES ROCK থেকে বাইনোকুলার দিয়ে বহুদূরের ৩৬০ ডিগ্রী ভিউ পাওয়া যায়।সুন্দর সবুজ উপত্যকা। TREKKER দের দারুন পছন্দের জায়গা। NAZRANI,BRAMARAM ইত্যাদি বহু তামিল ছবির শুটিং হয়েছে ,হচ্ছে এখানে। এখান থেকে SABARIMALA FOREST সুন্দর ভাবে দেখা যায়।
কফি,গোলমরিচ,চা এবং এলাচ বাগিচা দেখতে আসতেই হবে এখানে।পূর্বতন ত্রিবানকুর রাজপরিবারের গ্রীষ্মকালীন আবাস ছিল এটি।পাহাড় ,নদী ও জলপ্রপাতের সমারোহে দারুন দারুন সুন্দর একটি জায়গা।


Peermedu is a lovely hill station located about 40 km from Kumily, Idukki district in Central Kerala, at an altitude of 915 m above sea level. It is an ideal retreat in the Western Ghats and a choice break for tourists en route to the Periyar Tiger Reserve.

Kumily is a beautiful town in Kerala nearby Thekkady and Periyar Tiger Reserve. It is a popular tourist destination and lies in the National Highway 183 that connects Kottayam through Mundakayam and Kanjirappally. This place offers an easy access for many Kerala bound merchants and laborers.



GATEWAY OF THEKKADY........ পুরোপুরি বাগিচা শহর।আগে নাম ছিল KUZHUMOOR.... কুয়াশা ঢাকা পাহাড়,জঙ্গল ...... তামিলনাড়ু রাজ্যের সীমানায় ব্যস্ত বাণিজ্যিক শহর।ছুটি কাটানোর জন্য এক্কেবারে আদর্শ স্থান।
